I received my PhD in Biology from the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany, in 1994. Subsequently, I moved to the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen. From 1997 until 1999, I spent two years as a Visiting Professor at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario. In 1999, I was awarded with a Young Researchers Award from the Volkswagen Foundation and moved to Ruhr University where I founded and directed the BioMotionLab at the Department of Psychology.
In 2003, I accepted the position as a Canada Research Chair in Vision and Behavioural Sciences at Queen's University. I am Professor in the Department of Psychology, and I am cross-appointed with the School of Computing. I am also an Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Vision Research at York University and a member of the CIFAR group on Neural Computation & Adaptive Perception. Currently, I hold a NSERC Steacie Fellowship.
My main research interest is focused on questions concerning the Biology and Psychology of visual perception in socially relevant contexts. I have been working for many years on human face recognition. Currently, most of the projects in my lab are concerned with the information processing involved in the recognition of biological motion. For further information please refer to the web page of the BioMotionLab.
